Elena Cardone signs copies of Dianetics at London Scientology recruitment event

Prominent Scientologist Elena Cardone signed copies of Dianetics at a recruitment event held at the Church of Scientology London this week, Jacob Harkey reports.

The event, titled “Build Your Empire: The 3 Keys to an Extraordinary Life with Elena Cardone” was officially marketed as a night for the wife of American billionaire and celebrity Scientologist Grant Cardone to share “the principles that have shaped her journey in business, marriage, family, and life.” While the event description features several paragraphs before any mention of Scientology, it is eventually revealed that the speaker will introduce the book “she credits with changing her perspective: Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard.

The event was well attended, mostly by young women and non-Scientologists, an inside source told Scientology Business. “It was a classic bait and switch, it was billed as like a how to be successful event, and ended with Charlie explaining the Bridge!” they said. “So an FSM event/intro lecture. Which is basically how London are recruiting now, through myriad intro lectures targeting specific niches, mostly non-English speaking.”

Introductory lectures have formed part of Scientology’s recruitment strategy for years. Field Staff Member (FSM) is a term used to describe parishioners who bring new people into the group and claim a commission on subsequent book and course sales. The event was “headed by” Charlie Wakley, who has been a prominent figure at London Org for years and is considered one of their leading sales people. Cardone signed copies of Dianetics, our source says, and “genuinely quite a lot of people turned out”, with an overflow room set up next to the Chapel. “I’d say a couple of hundred people at least. More people than they get for L. Ron Hubbard’s Birthday event!”

Coming just days after the annual IAS event in East Grinstead, the event left “staff on their knees” due to “huge individual fundraising targets”, we were told. Our source continued, “I find the fact that she was signing copies of Dianetics bordering on blasphemous… never heard of anyone else doing that.”

In July, Elena’s husband Grant Cardone lied during a deposition, claiming his companies Cardone Enterprises and Cardone Trading Technologies had not been running ads in the United Kingdom just months after the Advertising Standards Authority found ads targeting social media users in the UK were “misleading.”
