A protest has been announced ahead of this year’s gathering of the Church of Scientology’s official membership body, the International Association of Scientologists.
The annual IAS event takes place at Scientology’s UK headquarters at Saint Hill, near East Grinstead, Sussex and is widely publicised as the “greatest gathering” of Scientologists, with faithful parishioners flocking from across the world to hear reclusive leader Captain David Miscavige speak. The event typically takes place across three days in October and includes an address from their dear leader, a lavish black-tie gala dinner and charity concert. Scientology’s biggest donors are handed trophies to recognise their financial contributions, with Trish Duggan topping the leaderboard last year having donated over $360 million to the IAS.
Tom Cruise often arrives by helicopter, angering locals who last year complained about the “chaos” and “disruption” the event brings to the otherwise quiet countryside town.
Today, Scientology announced this year’s IAS event will be taking place on the weekend of 23rd, 24th and 25th October.
A protest march has also been announced, with ex-Scientologists and concerned locals expected to march through East Grinstead. Information can be found at iasprotest.com.
